During my life three important revolutions have
occurred: the transition from monarchy to republic, the fall of
the Berlin Wall, and the destruction of the environment.
In short: the horror of war, the hope -for a lot of people- in
a new order and the anguish in seeing the death of the natural
environment from which our survival depends, have allowed to my
ideology to come out.
In the early seventies, with a group of friends coming from different
parts of the world, I lined out the main foundations for the creation
of the Movement "Ecoforum for Peace". Since the beginning
this institution received a broad recognition from governments
and international organizations.
In line with its own status, Ecoforum wants to inform public and
form future scientists understanding the relations between science,
environment and peace.
There are thousands meetings, seminars, congresses about these
problems but, in fact, nothing is done for the environment. Our
time is characterized by consumers' culture; it has made people
lose the real values of humankind and respect for the environment.
And unfortunately all educational institutions - at all levels
- do not operate themselves sufficiently in order to plan a better
liveable future for everybody.
In this year of the fiftieth anniversary of the United Nations,
my thoughts are for the leaders and scientists of the future,
that is, for those who will need to administer "the humankind
heritage" in the decades to come. I want to create for them
a academic structure that will enable them to search new peaceful
strategies, and to introduce an ecological way of thinking in
each field of science. This conceives needs to be the premise
for giving birth to our new University and for expanding our academic
work in the five continents.
