ECOFORUM for PEACE was founded in 1986 with a double purpose: the promotion of peace, and the protection of the natural environment.

Representatives of the United states, United Kingdom, the Union of the Soviet Republics, the Republic of Bulgaria, the Reign of Holland, the Republic of France, the Federal Republic of Germany, the Republic of Brazil, of India, Japan and Australia; altogether 88 scientists coming from 32 Nations, formed the first Executive Council of ECOFORUM.

In 1987, U.N. Secretary General, Javier Perez de Cuellar, awarded this acknowledgment to ECOFORUM, an honour destined only to a few no-governmental institutions.

The ECOFORUM headquarters is located in Sofia (Bulgaria).
The official languages are, besides to Bulgarian, Russian and English.
ECOFORUM is a no-governmental, independent institution with a budget for its annual management.
The ECOFORUM financial resources are guaranteed through donations, funds coming from governmental agencies and social bequests.

Among ECOFORUM's partners there are associated scientists, non-scientists and politicians who recognize themselves in the "movement" ideals.
Currently the active partners exceed the 500 units coming from more than 40 different Nations.
ECOFORUM cooperates closely with more than 30 international organizations (WHO, UNEP, UNESCO, etc).


ECOFORUM for PEACE recognize itself in the following aims:

1. Harmonious development between the needs of economy and nature, as an essential condition of the social progress.
2. Support of organizations having analogue purposes.
3. To acquire and to apply, where it is possible, the results of the scientific research referred to the environment problems and world's peace.
   To assure, permanently, through its three bodies (General Assembly, Executive Council and General Secretariat) the activity of the "movement".
4. The publication of the yearbook " ECOFORUM for Peace".
5. To organize study seminaries and cultural development programs, conferences and work groups, in order to spread the ideology of the "movement".
6. To maintain its own financial independence.
7. To favour and to strengthen the relationships among governmental institutions.

The premise that is compulsory for every man pursuing harmony between economy and environment, in order to avoid the ecological catastrophe, identify the "mission" of ECOFORUM because only through this effort we will be able to re-establish the lost harmony and men will find peace again.
